10 Youtube URL Tricks You Should Know About

Here are some Great Tricks!!!
10 Youtube URL Tricks You Should Know About:

1. View high quality videos
2. Embed Higher Quality Videos
3. Cut the chase and link to the interesting part
4. Hide the search box
5. Embed only a part of Video
6. Autoplay an embedded video
7. Loop an embedded video
8. Disable Related Videos
9. Bypass Youtube Regional Filtering
10. Download Video

1. View high quality videos
Youtube gives you the option to switch to high quality videos for some of the videos, however you can check if a video is available in high quality format by appending ‘&fmt=18′(stereo, 480 x 270 resolution) or ‘&fmt=22′(stereo, 1280 x 720 resolution) for even higher quality.

2. Embed Higher Quality Videos
While the above trick works for playback, if however you want to embed hig quality videos you need to append “&ap=%2526fmt%3D18″ and “&ap=%2526fmt%3D22″ to the embed url.

3. Cut the chase and link to the interesting part
Linking to a video where the real action starts at 3 minutes 22 seconds, wondered if you could make it start at 03:22? You are in luck. All you have to do is add #t=03m22s (#t=XXmYYs for XX mins and YY seconds) to the end of the URL.

4. Hide the search box
The search box appears when you hover over an embedded video. To hide the search box add ‘&showsearch=0′ to the embed url.

5. Embed only a part of Video
Just append ‘&start=30′ to skip first 30s of the video. In general you can modify the value after start= to the number of seconds you want to skip the video for.

6. Autoplay an embedded video
Normally when you embed a Youtube video and load the page, the player is loaded and it sits there waiting for you to hit the play button. You can make the video play automatically by adding ‘&autoplay=1′ to the url part of the embed code.

7. Loop an embedded video
Append ‘&loop=1′ to make the video start again without user intervention after it reaches the end.

8. Disable Related Videos
Publishing your content in the form of Youtube video? Don’t want people to see other people’s content that may be related but may as well be in competition to you? Just add ‘&rel=0′ to the end of the url part of the embed code and you just turned off the related video suggestions!

9. Bypass Youtube Regional Filtering
Some videos are only available in certain parts of the world. Your IP Address is used to determine your location and then allow or deny access to the video. Change the url from<somecode> to<somecode>

10. Download Video
Although not inherently a youtube trick but useful all the same for downloading videos. Just change youtube to kickyoutube in the url of the video and it will take you to with all the options for downloading the video you were watching.

All these can be found Here:

Cutting down my VS time - Thanks Everybody

I did sift tons for a while, I enjoyed it, and thanks for all the votes I got I even got my crown, and got to be #5 of all time! It was fun, exciting and I loved it!

Maybe I am just generally depressed atm, but I don't feel like going out and finding any videos to sift. I never was active on commenting, so that won't change... But right now, I just don't think I can find anything to sift, and I can't even come here to watch the stuff people submitted, because I am just burned out.. or depressed, or something..

I am sorry I am cancelling my charter membership for now. But if I am not active, my little barista paycheck can't really afford too much. Especially when I have cut down my hours at work because I feel like I am going to have a nervous breakdown if I work over 20 hours a week.. NetRunner is fine so far, he's working just fine and making most of the money for the household, but I can't make him pay for my addictions, especially when my addictions are not very stable..

In any case, I want to say THANKS, Thanks, and thanks..! It has been fun! I love this place, and I hope to be back, and sane one day soon. I am so sorry I haven't upvoted more, checked out more submissions, sponsored more newbies.. Good Lord, I should not be crying when I am typing this, but I feel like I am saying goodbye to a friend.. even if most of the people here never even knew me.

Like I said, I love this place, I might be back and be active, I might be back and just submit a video every now and then.. I don't know.. I just want to stay sane

- Mint

Time for a new Sifter?

The layout for VideoSift 4.0 is progressing nicely, in the hands of a noted UI designer/Sifter.

One of the things we're considering is our current VideoSift Sifter logo. Should we keep it just like it is?

It was designed by Ren a long time ago in an earlier, simpler Sift era- but has drawbacks now in that it doesn't blend well with custom CSS background colors in channels.

There's also the issue that some people don't even recognise what it is. I put this down to a general unfamiliarity with kitchen utensils for most people - but maybe we could come up with another design that better evokes what a "sifter" is. All ideas and scribbles welcomed.

VideoSift 3.3 Roundtable

Yes, it's that time again- give us some ideas for VideoSift 3.3. This could be something that you feel is broken and needs to be fixed or features that you would like added. All ideas are welcome and will be considered for inclusion in our next update.

Siftography: Arvana

Manager of the Nature Channel and our number six ranked member, Arvana has been hanging out on Videosift for a relatively short time but has managed to make quite an impact both with his video contributions and the unique approach to life which he offers through his comments. He has also offered some great advice for wanna-be top members on how to make a similar rise through the ranks.

The Sift could not be called a spiritual haven and yet within its denizens, lurk some of the most refreshingly spiritual people I've encountered on the internet, including Arvana himself.

What exactly do I mean by spiritual? Well, for me, it means being interested in exploring those eternal questions like "Who am I? Why am I here?". It is being willing to expose our shadow selves to the full light. It is recognising the patterns of one's life as having parallels to events of the world, both natural and human. It is seeking inspiration from nature and the earth and feeling a deep reverence for it.

It's also setting the goal of experiencing full consciousness.

I could go on, but here is Arvana's description of what consciousness is, just to kick the theme of this interview off:

Arvana: Well the Arvana theory of consciousness goes like this: All things have inherent consciousness just as much as physical structure, and that consciousness is not separate from all other consciousnesses. Only our egos divide us from the universal consciousness and the spiritual path is to dissolve our egos so that we can rejoin the collective.

Converting to Linux ....Please

Alright, I'm officially fed up with Vista. I bought this notebook a year ago and I bet I've had over 1000 browser crashes during that time.

Not all of us are technically savvy. I was member of VS over a month before I found out how to find an embed. I've heard for years that Linux is better, that it barely crashes and its less vulnerable to attacks.

Can a few of our ubergeeks help set me onto the path to freedom??

I'm ready.

Introducing Beggar's Corner

There is a new section of the site called Beggar's Corner that is dedicated to you and your oh-so-precious personal queued vids that you think just need a little more attention and affection to get sifted up.

Effective immediately and for all members, if you have 1 Power Point available you can invoke *beg on a personal queue video of your own to move it into Beggar's Corner where it will reside for a max of three days, effectively giving it double the normal queue time in a much smaller arena so it'll have a much better chance at drawing in some viewers. Also to help PQ videos, the main sidebar panel in Beggar's Corner is a listing of the latest videos that were expired from the main queue into the submitter's personal queue.

Currently, there is no place in the site header linking to Beggar's Corner because we aren't exactly sure where it would be best placed yet. Please help us test it out and make sure everything is functioning correctly. If you find any problems, please report them here. Otherwise, please just report here your thoughts on this new feature.

Possibly worthy of its own ST post, but I'll just add here that we've gone ahead and moved the Dead Pool tab down into the header linkbar and now it's only displayed for logged-in members (since it's really useless for non-members to view). We replaced the Dead Pool tab with the "B.C." tab which takes you to Beggar's Corner. (The full text would just take up too much space.)

Also, I didn't mention previously but Beggar's Corner is channel-specific, so if you view it from within a channel you'll see only the corresponding BC videos.

Requeue Now Resets "Unique Member Views" Counter

Effective immediately, the *requeue invocation now actually has some significant weight and benefit for queued videos.

Before, for the default queue sort order (fewest unique member views), after a requeue you're video wouldn't be in a much better position than it was before because it'd still be a few pages back at best.

Now, a *requeue will reset your unique member view counter to zero, so it will appear near the top of the first page of the queue for anyone using the default sort order. If you aren't using the default sort order by now, I highly recommend you switch.

(Note that after a requeue the view counter the value displayed when you hover over the videos view count will no longer correspond to the counter for the default listing, just for the votes-to-views ratio listing.)

Minor Smiley Update

Just updated a couple of smilies to look a little better and added a couple of new ones. To refresh the memory of those who know and inform those who don't, here's the complete list of available emoticons with the new ones first: ... more inside

With the recent changeover to VS3 I have noticed that it is no longer the channel name that appears by videos but the sub domain. Now, the problem is that the clouds and beyond channel accepts all flying videos whether or not they are actually in space. Therefore it seems a little misleading (especially for new users) to stick spacy next to the videos. I can see there would be a similar problem with the Matt Groening & Friends Appreciation (woohoo) and possibly Give Away Your TV (gay).

I suppose a possible solution for me would be for me to remove all aviation videos from the channel, rename and just do space. But this seems less than ideal and the problem would still be there for the other two collectives.

Anyone else got any suggestions?
