I also would not want to be in a non-forked, lack of suspension bike, in any environment where a stick of that strength could find itself between my spokes without human aid.

That being said, usually the receipt will declare that the 18% gratuity for a party of X or greater is included and they add it to your total for you thus eliminating some of the confusion. I do agree that they should have been comped.
